Pasta Bake

Ingredients:

  • 1 package (about 20 oz) colored cheese tortellini
  • 2 cups shredded Mozzarella cheese, divided
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon cracked black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 2 tablespoons chopped chives

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking dish with butter or cooking spray.
  2. Cook the Tortellini: Cook the colored cheese tortellini according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  3. Prepare the Mozzarella Sauce: In a medium saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add flour and whisk continuously to create a roux. Cook for 1-2 minutes until it turns a light golden color.
  4. Add Milk and Seasonings: Gradually pour in the whole milk while whisking constantly to avoid lumps. Continue to whisk until the mixture thickens. Add cracked black pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, and salt to taste. Stir until the seasonings are well incorporated.
  5. Incorporate Mozzarella Cheese: Reduce heat to low and add 1.5 cups of shredded Mozzarella cheese to the sauce. Stir until the cheese is fully melted and the sauce is smooth.
  6. Combine Sauce and Tortellini: Pour the Mozzarella sauce over the cooked tortellini and gently toss until the tortellini are evenly coated.
  7. Assemble in Baking Dish: Transfer the coated tortellini to the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle the remaining Mozzarella cheese over the top, followed by breadcrumbs.
  8. Bake in the Oven: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for approximately 20 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.
  9. Garnish and Serve: Remove the pasta bake from the oven, sprinkle chopped chives over the top for a fresh finish. Allow it to cool slightly before serving.
  10. Serve and Enjoy: Serve this delightful pasta bake as a flavorful side dish or as a satisfying main course. Enjoy the creamy goodness of the Mozzarella sauce paired with the colorful cheese tortellini.
